Is it the heat of recession that is stopping people from their presence in fashion shows? In the present scenario saving money has become more fashionable for majority of the people than the fashion itself. At Los Angeles fashion week, less than a dozen expressed serious interest in showing up. It’s the high time to revive the runway show as the time-honored system of selling fashion from runways is losing ground. Although some of the European shows are subsidized by the government entities, the show still costs to the designers. They are required to defray costs by seeking corporate sponsors.
Many entertainment management giants like Mercedes Benz and Smash box has already backed out the Los Angeles event fully. Also in this recession era designers should be designing for low budget household.
Number of designers, holding their own events , did not show up for the New York’s well established, IMG-sponsored fashion week last February. Also Gen Art, known for identifying young talent, is losing quite a number of its sponsors that is creating obstructions for holding its events. Many designers are marketing directly to their consumers with the help of internet by replaying their presentations on their web sites.
Now the shows are designed for the store customers not for the retailers or editors. An event is planned by the New York-based event producer Rock Media & Entertainment for holding their own Los Angeles Rock Fashion Week on October 28-31 at Paramount Studios and to attract more visitors it is expected to include number of runway shows with a mix of local, national and international designers with a group show for emerging designers.
